Michael Downey, baritone
Studied after his first degree(in Classics)gaining grant, bursary, and sponsorship. Study: mainly with(Esther Salaman's "best pupil") Patricia O'Neill. Morley Opera; roles: opera groups(Beaufort), intensive short courses: Mozart, Verdi, operetta, Early Opera. Other Teaching/guidance: Esther Salaman, Ilse Wolf, Thomas Hemsley, Peter Gellhorn, Jonathan Hinden, Stephen Metcalf.... Acting: City Lit Inst Michael has had a duo for song recital since 1994, first with Richard Pearce, Chris Gould, then Magnus Gilljam, Quentin Thomas. A linguist with remote Austrian family connections and many summers spent there, in Lieder where something more than just correct pronounciation of the text is needed, he has an advantage.
