The Tallis Chamber Choir was formed by Philip Simms in 1982 and quickly established itself as one of the leading British choirs, numbering between 12 and 60 singers. TCC has appeared at many English and European Festivals, at all London's major concert halls with most of Britain's leading orchestras as well as ones from Paris, Budapest, Perugia, Tel Aviv, Moscow and Gothenburg.
Conductors have included Ashkenazy, Bruggen, Domingo, Goodwin, Harnoncourt, Hickox, Jarvi, Leonhardt, Leppard, Mackerras, Malgoire, Mehta, Menuhin, Norrington, Sacher, Spivakov, Tate, Tilson Thomas and Viotti, and more recently Adès and Oramo. TCC has a number of commercial recordings to its credit, including several with the English Chamber Orchestra. They have appeared on British and Irish TV, made several documentaries, broadcast for the BBC many times and also for French, German and Irish radio, made commercial "backing tracks", and performed twice at Buckingham Palace. With their conductor, Philip Simms, the choir has also sung in Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Belgium, Poland, Ireland, France and Portugal.
Other engagements for 2007 have included a recording of "Zadok the Priest", a performance of the "Easter Oratorio" with the English Chamber Orchestra in Cadogan Hall, and a concert in St Martin-in-the-Fields to mark the 200 Years of the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Future engagements include "Carols and Candles" in the East Winter Gardens, Canary Wharf on 18 December and "The Spirit of Christmas by Candlelight" in St Martin-in-the-Fields on 20 December. In 2008, TCC performs the world premiere of "Lazarus Requiem" by Patrick Hawes in Cadogan Hall with the English Chamber Orchestra on 14 March, and performances of Beethoven 9 with the London Mozart Players in May at Cadogan Hall and Fairfield Hall. TCC has dates with the ECO in March 2009 to perform Bach's Magnificat, conducted by Paul Watkins.
