"...one of the most captivating pianists of her generation" MUSIC & MUSICIANS

Marguerite Wolff began her formal study of the piano with her mother at the age of five and gave her first concert at the Wigmore Hall when she was ten. Five years later she made her orchestral debut under Sir John Barbirolli. She studied with Thomas Knott at the Royal Academy of Music and with Gertrude Azulay at Trinity College of Music - where she was appointed to the teaching staff at the age of twenty-one. While still in her teens she commenced a long period of study with Louis Kentner who remained her musical mentor until his death.
Marguerite Wolff has played with leading orchestras and given recitals in most of the capitals of Europe, made nine extensive tours of South America, eight of Africa and this year is making her eleventh tour of the Far East.
For many years Marguerite was a member of the Council of the Liszt Society and has recently made a recording of a group of works by this composer. In addition to the works of Chopin and Liszt, for which she has a special affection, Marguerite has been associated with the works of Sir Arthur Bliss who has written music for her. She made the first recording of his Piano Sonata. and during a tour of the U.S.A., gave the world premiere performance of his Wedding Suite. Miss Wolff has an impressive repertoire.
Marguerite is the subject of a biography by Robert Clarson-Leach and was observed by Music and Musicians to be "long regarded as one of the most captivating pianists of her generation" and by Classical Music Magazine as a "truly refined and remarkable musician". Malcolm Williamson, the Master of the Queen's Musik, has just written her a piano concerto which will have its world premiere next year.
